Person-Centred Counselling and Clinical Supervision in Oldham and Online

A Safe Harbour When Life Feels Uncertain

Welcome to Anchor Counselling and Supervision, based in Oldham and offering online support.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming or directionless, and finding a safe space to pause, reflect and make sense of your experiences can make all the difference. My aim is to offer you that calm harbour — a supportive environment where you can explore challenges and discover a renewed sense of purpose and direction.

About Me – Jennifer Rafferty

I’m a Person-Centred Counsellor with over seven years’ experience supporting individuals through a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges. I am also a qualified clinical supervisor and offer guidance and a reflective space for fellow therapists in their professional development. Alongside my private practice, I work as a Senior Counsellor providing Palliative and Grief Counselling.

My professional journey also includes roles as a Senior Practitioner within a Young Persons Mental Health Service as a Substance Misuse Practitioner in the NHS. I also worked for a charity supporting survivors of sexual abuse and exploitation, and also with young parents at a mother and baby unit.

My professional experience has given me a deep understanding of how personal, relational, and social factors can affect wellbeing. I bring warmth, compassion, and honesty to my work, helping clients to feel understood and supported as they move toward growth and healing.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) — Member No. 00901067 — and adhere to their professional and ethical framework for good practice.

My Approach

At times, life’s storms can leave us feeling adrift — uncertain, overwhelmed, or unable to move forward despite our best efforts. Counselling provides a safe space to explore these feelings and make sense of the experiences behind them.

As your counsellor, I will walk alongside you with empathy and respect, encouraging you to reflect with self-compassion and honesty. Together, we’ll explore new perspectives and uncover the inner resources that can help you navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and resilience.

Clinical Supervision

I am a qualified clinical supervisor after completing a level 6 diploma in individual and group supervision

I work with therapists, trainees, social workers and other professionals in the 'helping' industry.

As a supervisor, I use an integrative approach and will collaborate with you to explore your client work. I hope to provide the conditions for you to develop your practice by putting curiosity and compassion at the heart of how I work.

Neurodiversity & Inclusive Practice

I warmly welcome neurodivergent clients and supervisees, including those exploring a possible diagnosis. Having ADHD myself, I understand the unique experiences that come with neurodivergence. Drawing on both my lived experience and specialist training, I offer neuro-affirming therapy that recognises your individuality and works collaboratively to meet your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from counselling?

Counselling is a confidential space where you can explore whatever feels difficult or confusing in your life. It’s not about being given advice, but rather about being supported to understand your experiences, feelings and relationships more deeply. Together, we’ll work at your pace to help you gain insight, self-acceptance and the tools to move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Do you offer online counselling sessions?

Yes. I offer online counselling via Zoom, which means you can access therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own home. Online sessions are held securely and work in much the same way as face-to-face counselling. This option is ideal for clients who prefer flexibility or who are based outside Oldham or the surrounding areas.

How much does counselling cost?

Counselling sessions are £55 for 50 minutes.

I also offer a free 20-minute introductory call so that we can discuss your needs and see if working together feels right for you.

For Clinical Supervision, sessions are £65 per hour, and I offer a limited number of reduced-rate spaces for students or those in training.

How do I know if you’re the right counsellor?

Finding the right counsellor is an important part of the process. I offer an initial free 20-minute call so you can ask questions and get a sense of how I work. My approach is person-centred, which means the focus is always on you and what feels most helpful for your journey. Many clients find that this gentle, collaborative way of working helps them feel safe and understood from the start.

Do you work with neurodivergent clients?

Yes, I welcome neurodivergent clients and supervisees, including those who are exploring or awaiting a diagnosis. As someone with lived experience of ADHD, I understand how therapy can be adapted to meet different needs. I aim to offer neuro-affirming counselling and supervision, where your unique ways of thinking and processing are understood and valued.

Where are you based?

I’m based in Shaw, Oldham (Greater Manchester) and offer online sessions. Clients often come to me from Oldham, Shaw, Royton, Derker and Saddleworth, but online sessions mean I can work with people across the UK.
